'Celebration of Jewish resilience': Hanukkah endures amid rise in antisemitism
"Oil expected to last one night burned for eight as Maccabee Jews in 164 B.C. revolted against their Syrian-Greek oppressors.
For Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz, the enduring light shining through the darkness of those eight nights is emblematic of the Jewish spirit and the core of Hanukkah."

Arizona rabbi organizes Thanksgiving dinner for refugees from other parts of the world
""For many people, Thanksgiving is just a time for family. What we realize, with some of our family being distant and wanting the holiday to not just be about us, that who would be the best people to invite, people who don't have a family to turn to and that would be the refugee community," said Rabbi Yanklowitz."

Six Greater Phoenix rabbis, other clergy highlight Arizona’s ‘draconian’ abortion bans
"The morning’s prayer circle, which included six local rabbis representing Reform, Conservative and Orthodox perspectives, was to call attention to the Civil War-era abortion ban, which was put into effect Sept. 23. This ban outlaws all abortions in the state, except when the life of the mother is at risk, which is left to a doctor’s “good faith clinical judgment” and has caused much confusion and consternation among doctors, hospitals and pregnant people."

Poverty numbers decline nationally, but that isn’t visible in Greater Phoenix, Jewish organizations say
"Austin Davis, Arizona Jews for Justice’s community outreach organizer and founder of AZ Hugs for the Houseless, said helping people navigate the patchwork system of programs is key to keeping people out of homelessness."
“It’s important to tackle housing insecurity and homelessness from different angles,” he said.
From what he’s witnessed, more people are living on the street now than before the pandemic.
“In Arizona, we’re in the midst of a housing crisis and every week we see people getting evicted and we talk to people who just can’t pay rent. It’s a big issue.”

"The idea that one should have the religious freedom to discriminate against other religions seems like a strange perversion,” Phoenix Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz told Phoenix New Times. “The most important thing is that children are put in the best homes, not the most Christian homes."

The rally was organized by Arizona Jews for Justice, which looks to mobilize the Jewish community toward progressive action in the Valley and Arizona as a whole.
"We are here to support our undocumented communities," Chavez said. "We are here to make sure that folks understand that we are tired of the same narrative that pushes migration as some sort of illegal, horrific thing.
"We want to change the narrative of migration being a crisis. The crisis isn’t in migration, our response is a crisis of how we dehumanize people, how we look at people as less than."
